1894 WINCHESTER REPRODUCTION

W-1 1894 Winchester Classic Model. Caliber .32-40 Winchester; this rifle started life in 1968 as a new
in the box 1894 Winchester Classic Model in .30-30 Winchester; at the time, I belonged to a Schuetzen club
in Florida which got into, among other things, lever action matches, so I sent the rifle to a gunsmith in
Oregon, who re-barreled it with an air-gauged 30-inch full octagon Douglas barrel in .32-40; sights are a
Lyman adjustable tang sight and Lyman 17A front globe w/apertures; unsually nice piece of factory stock
wood and best factory trigger I’ve ever seen on a lever action rifle; like new, and I may have the original box
somewhere; rifle is extremely accurate with the old John Wayne “Duke” factory ammunition, so no telling
what it could do with handloads; NIB .30-30 Classics are selling for up to $2,000 on gun.broker.com; $995.

ROLLING BLOCKS
(Originals and Reproductions)

Note: A lot of what you see on Gunbroker.com and GunsAmerica.com is absolute junk. The original military
rifles listed below are nice, clean (mostly arsenal refinished, I would guess) examples, complete with
original ramrods, sights and, to the best of my knowledge, all other parts.

RB-1 Remington Rolling Block New York State Militia Musket. Caliber .50-70 Government; faint
cartouches on left and right sides of wrist; small “41" (rack or other inventory number?) stamped into lower
comb of buttstock; some roughness along ramrod channel; original ramrod which shows some pitting on the
tulip; other metal parts have turned brown; decent stock with small gouge on left side; very good bore (which
has not been cleaned) and relatively sharp rifling; these are getting really hard to find in this condition; $1,100.

RB-2 Remington Argentine Contract Rifle. Caliber .43 Spanish; a really nice, clean arsenal refinished
rifle; bluing is excellent (but with some minor pitting underneath) and wood has only minor nicks and dings;
bright, shiny bore with sharp rifling; should be a great shooter; brass and dies available; $750.

RB-3 Remington 1902 Rolling Block. Caliber 7mm (7x57 Mauser); this rifle was apparently refinished
some time ago and the stock sanding was somewhat aggressive (slightly rounded edges at wood/metal fit),
but the result was a 100-year old stock with virtually no dings/dents; retains 90+% blue on barrel, with all
other metal parts turned brown; original ramrod; absolutely no rust or pitting; rear sight is the “roller-coaster”
pattern; bore is dark and rifling has lost its sharpness at the breech; action is very, very tight; this is a really
clean 1902; $750.

RB-3 Remington 1902 Rolling Block. Caliber 7mm (7x57 Mauser); this rifle is purportedly one of those
acquired by the British Royal Navy for the alledged purpose of destroying floating mines in shipping lanes;
“BNP” over crown stamped on upper left side of receiver, left side of block and left side of hammer; typical
military stock dents and dings, very minor crack on buttstock at buttplate; fair amount of blue remaining on
barrel, block and hammer; very faint case colors on left side of receiver; original ramrod has brass brazed
repair just below patch slot; this rifle was photographed by the individual from whom I purchased it for use
in George Layman’s new rolling block book; barrel is fairly dark and rifling shows some wear, particularly
at breech end; $850.

RB-4 Remington No. 4 Rolling Block. Caliber .22 S, L, LR; solid frame; excellent wood; decent bore
and strong rifling; a squirrel would consider it an honor to be brought down by this piece of history; $550

RB-5 Pedersoli Rolling Block. Caliber .45-70; imported by Navy Arms; 26-inch heavy part octagon
barrel; perfect bore, wood and blue; probably unfired; this model had a brass barrel band, trigger guard and
buttplate, which I treated with Birchwood Casey Blue/Black solution in order to make it more suitable as a
woods rifle; didn’t turn out exactly as I wanted, but with a little more work, would look cool; $500.

RB-6 Pedersoli John Bodine Long Range Target Rifle. Caliber .45-70; 30-inch heavy octagon barrel;
double set triggers; full compliment of Pedersoli target sights; ANIB; $1,500.

TRAPDOORS
(Original and Reproduction)

TD-1 Springfield U.S. Model of 1884. Caliber .45-70; everything’s here, including original
ramrod/bayonet; decent wood with no gouges or serious scrapes, dings or dents; visible cartouche on upper
left wrist; all metal parts have turned brown, but no rust or pitting anywhere; a good, honest 1884; muzzle
needs to be re-crowned to make it a shooter; $950.

TD-2 Harrington & Richardson Commemorative Officer’s Model of 1873. Caliber .45-70; appears
unfired; wiping rod present; no stock blemishes, but small amount if rust/pitting at upper end of buttplate,
which seems to be a common problem with these rifles (see Bill Goodman’s 5/30/08 list
[www.goodmanguns.com]) ; no signs of firing or use; except for the buttplate blemish, it’s otherwise as new
in the original (albeit a little worn) box; $895.

SPENCER REPRODUCTION

SP-1 Spencer Model 1868 Rifle. Caliber 56/50 Spencer; manufactured by Armi Sport, imported by
Taylor’s & Co., Inc. (Winchester, VA); the carbines are fairly readily available, the rifles are not; this rifle has
been fired less than a dozen rounds, so is virtually as new in original box; brass and dies available; if you
don’t think the U.S. dollar is in big trouble, check out what’s happened to the U.S. price of Pedersoli’s,
Uberti’s, etc; $1,100.

MAUSERS

M-1 Argentine Model of 1891 (Mauser Modelo Argentino 1891). Caliber 7.65 x 53 Mauser;
manufactured by Loewe, Berlin; all numbers (L9731) matching, including ramrod; Argentine crest ground
off receiver top, as is true with most of the imports; very sharp cartouche and inspector’s marks on an
unusually (for a military rifle) highly figured stock; very few dings or dents; bright finished bolt; almost all blue
remains on barrel, barrel bands, sling swivels and receiver; buttplate is grey patina; bore is a little dark but
rifling appears fairly strong, and all may clean up with a little work; this rifle has the best looking piece of
wood I’ve ever seen on a military rifle; $650.

M-2 Argentine Model of 1909 (Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909). Caliber 7.65 x 53 Mauser;
manufactured by Deutsche Waffen-Und Munitions Fabriken - Berlin; all numbers (L2896) matching,
including ramrod; stock has very faint cartouche, inspectors marks, and very few dents and dings; sharp
Argentine crest present on receiver; bright, shiny bore with clear, sharp rifling; typical bright finish on receiver
and bolt, faded blue on barrel, buttplate and barrel bands; this is a very, very clean specimen of a 100-year
old military rifle; got to be a great shooter; $650.

M-3 Argentine Model of 1909 (Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909). Caliber 7.65 x 53 Mauser;
manufactured by Deutsche Waffen-Und Munitions Fabriken -Berlin; all numbers (N4277) matching,
including ramrod; stock has very sharps cartouche and inspector’s marks, with very few dents and dings;
sharp Argentine crest present on receiver; bright, shiny bore with clear, sharp rifling; typical bright finish on
receiver and bolt, strong blue on barrel, barrel bands, sling swivels and sights; grey patina buttplate; nice
figure in buttstock, handguard wood is somewhat lighter; this is another very, very clean example of a 1909
Argentine Mauser; should be a great shooter; $650.

M-4 Chilean Model of 1895 (Mauser Chileno Modelo 1895) Caliber 7.65 x 53 Mauser; manufactured
by Loewe, Berlin; all numbers (E826) matching, including ramrod; stock is nearly flawless, but no cartouche
or inspector’s marks; crest is barely visible under the arsenal reblue; bright, shiny bore with clear, sharp
rifling; typical bright finish on bolt; strong blue on barrel, barrel bands, sling swivels, and buttplate, some
scuffing on underside of trigger guard; condition of the wood on this rifle is amazing; $650.

M-5 Swedish Model of 1896. Caliber 6.5x55; manufactured by Carl Gustaf in 1920 and so marked on
receiver; all numbers (486466) matching (except for cleaning rod); stock is excellent condition beech with
very , very few dings or dents; crown cartouche on lower wrist; blue is outstanding everywhere, except minor
wear on edges of trigger guard and fading on sling swivels and front sight hood (many of which are missing);
bright finish bolt showing no wear; bright, shiny bore with sharp rifling; original leather sling (crown marked);
correct brass inspection disk and ammunition conversion chart affixed to buttstock; an exceptionally clean
Swedish Mauser; C.A.I., St. Albans, VT import, so marked on right side of barrel at muzzle; $650.

M-6 Sporterized Argentine Model of 1891 (Mauser Modelo Argentino 1891). Caliber 7.65 x 53
Mauser; original barreled action by Deutsche Waffen-Und Munitions Fabriken - Berlin; stepped barrel cut
to about 21"; stock cut to sporting rifle length and slightly darker wood nosecap installed; original rear inletted
sling swivel removed and ebony insert installed; new sling swivel posts installed on forend and buttstock;
bolt handle bent; wood has been removed from buttstock to create a righthand cheekpiece; original
buttplate; bore is bright and shiny, with sharp rifling, as you would expect; serrated ramp front sight with
beaded blade and Williams windage/elevation adjustable receiver sight; this a cool sporterized military rifle;
excellent condition, free of dents and nicks, rust or pitting of any sort; $500.00

MARTINI-HENRY

MH-1 Sporterized Martini-Henry. Caliber 9x57R Mauser; you may have seen pigs fly, but you’ve never
seen anything like this one-of-a-kind rifle; short-lever Martini-Henry action (not sure which model, but
probably a Mark III), outstanding color case hardening, with blued lever, safety and cocking indicator;
gorgeous light wood (not sure what) 2-piece stock with dark (almost black) streaks, straight grip with
decelerator pad, semi-gloss hard finish; topped with Burris 2x5 scope; rifle shows absolutely no use or wear;
